Soldered Dream Bottles

I think all of us, sometimes find it hard to cope.
We all have our worries and our fears, but sometimes
something hits you. It hits you so hard that you cannot
breathe and you know you haven't planned for it.
It wasn't part of your dreams, it wasn't even part of your fears.

Then you need to slowly start making sense of it.
Sometimes it will never make sense. But we all have to move on and
let go........

Here are the dream bottles we created. I think we should all
have a few of them, or give them as a thank you gift, to someone that
keeps your dreams alive.

We must have used all our favourite stuff to decorate these bottles.
Bling and solder, buttons and seam binding.
Flowers and beads and a whole lot of special goodies.

Then these gift voucher envelopes. These were created so you can reuse
all the goodies on top of the envelope.
Seam binding, tags, flowers and stuff.

To all of us ....
.... keep calm and keep breathing....
xx

Soldered Bottle Pendant

Crystal beads, pearls and rayon ribbon forms the basis of this neck piece.
The small bottle's cap is removed and then soldered close and decorated with a piece of silver wire.

Inside the little bottle is a secret message on a piece of music paper.
Three small glass beads creates a bit of movement inside the bottle.

Remember that flux is your friend when you solder.
Thanks to everyone that attended the class on Saturday,
we really enjoyed having you!

We've been published - The Bead Book Issue 33

We are so pleased to share the news with you...
Two of our creations are featured in the latest issue of the BeadBook!

The first is Benice's chandelier that was made with a wire cupcake-stand turned upside down.

The second article features a soldered pendant that I made when Michelle from the BeadBook visited us recently.
For detailed instructions on both projects, you will have to buy the magazine from one of your local (South African) bead stores, Spar, CNA or Exclusive Books.

Alternatively you can join us for
an Introduction to Soldering class on 14 January 2012
at my studio in Moreletapark.
See sidebar on the right for more details.

We are looking forward to seeing you in the new year.

The middle of winter.

It was so cold this past week, but today we need to celebrate, celebrate that we are halfway through winter!
Winter to me feels blue, my toes quite often turn blue, and sometimes winter makes me feel blue,
so I've chosen this blue picture that I love, to celebrate the day.
So have a glass of glüwein tonight to get rid of the cold. Cheers!

The soldering class on Saturday was great,
we all enjoyed the different projects
and more photos will be posted after Wednesday' class.

Here is a peek of what we did to the crystals.
Remember the glass of wine tonight!
Keep well.

Soldering on Saturday

Hi everyone
I am so glad that I have had the whole day to myself, working in my studio. But first I must tell you that we went for a ride on the Gautrain yesterday. I was so excited. It was just a joyride, but it was stunning. There were lots of people who also did it just for fun. We boarded at Sandton station and got off at Rhodesfield. We then watched the train as it pulled in at O.R.Thambo, because Rhodesfield is insight from O.R. Thambo! We then got back on the same train, a few minutes later and it took us 12 min back to Sandton.

This photo was taken at Sandton station, one level higher than where our train departed from.
I think the station will never be so quiet again!

Now back to the soldering class on Saturday. You will learn to solder and complete three items. The pictures and glass slides we will be using are 5cm x 5cm.The soldered charm in the photo was done with a microscope slide and it has pictures at the front and the back.

I hear that a massive cold front is coming, but the studio will have a fire burning on Saturday.
 Keep well. Until later.
