There are no deadlines, there are no rules.
You can use what you want
and create what you want.

These are my absolute basics.

If you feel like creating, writing, doodling, drawing, scribbling,
painting, stenciling, texturing, gluing, spraying, stitching,
cutting and playing..... you are invited!

We will start off with one class a month.

Small Mixed Media Canvasses

Using different mediums on a canvas can be challenging.
Will the tissue paper tear? Where do I put my embellishments?
What colours am I going to use?

For this class we:
Covered the canvas with gesso.
Painted it with two colours of distresss paint.
Blended the colours by wiping it with a baby wipe.
Used gel medium to adhere the tissue paper and the
doilies to the canvas.

Then we used stamps and ink to create some depth.
We created shadows by using distress markers and a water pen.

To create the butterfly and the heart, we glued a piece of
watercolour paper to a piece of canvas paper.
We then used die cuts and a die cutting machine to
cut out the two shapes.
Then we embossed the two pieces before they became to dry.
Let them dry completely before you apply the colour with
your distress ink and applicator tool.

Each of the students brought their own individual touch to the canvasses.
It is amazing how different the end results can be.

Here is a list of the supplies that we used:

6 x 6 inch canvasses
Gesso
Distress paint
Distress markers
Distress stains
Baby wipes
Gel medium
Tissue paper
Doilies
Stamps
Archival ink
Die cuts
Die cutting machine
Chipboard words
Metal embellishments

Experiment with these techniques in your art journal.
Play around and enjoy the process.

Mixed media canvas

This was the last class we did and as usual
I post the tutorial after the class.

Materials:

box canvas
gesso
paint brush
baby wipes
heart doily
gel medium
tissue paper
canvas paper
water colour paper
heart die
heart embossing folder
chipboard word
Mono multi glue
water pen
Archival ink pad
stamp

Paint the canvas with a layer of gesso and let it dry
Decide on colours for your project and paint the canvas.
While the paint is still a bit wet, wipe off some of the paint
with your baby wipe. Let it dry.

Tear the tissue paper after you have decided which section to
use. Place all the elements on the canvas and do your layout.
Use gel medium and glue down your tissue paper and let it dry.

Glue the doily into the canvas with gel medium.

Make your heart element.
Use gel medium and glue the canvas paper and the
water colour paper together. While it is still damp, put it through
the die cutting machine and the embossing folder.
Leave to dry.

I made two hearts and then decided on the pink and white one.
Use your applicator tool to deepen your colours on the canvas
and to colour the heart.
Place washi tape strips on the canvas to fill some of the empty spaces.

Paint the word with distress paint and let it dry.
Turn the word over and apply little dots of Mono Multi Glue.
Let the glue dry before you place the word on the canvas.

Take the Distress markers and draw shadows in and around the doily.
Use a water pen to soften the effect.

Stamp around the edges with a stamp and Archival ink.
Sew a little charm to the heart.
Place the heart on 3D foam squares and adhere to the canvas.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.
Keep well!

Stunning tekkies

One thing about the tekkies, you never know what the end result will look like.
That is always exciting. You get involved in the pair that you are creating and
don't notice what is happening next to you.
There are always a few "Wow, that beautiful !"

We also had a special guest Emma, who came with Ann and
at first was very interested in what we did,

but later decided that it wasn't really her thing.

Then she retired to her private spot from where she could
watch all of us.

Sussie all into turquoise, which she says she normally doesn't do...

Lorna going for green and Natalie for blue.

Annitta and Antonet halfway through it and relaxing a bit.

Lisa in deep concentration to get it right....

and she did! It looked stunning.

Thanks girls for a lovely morning. I think all your tekkies looked stunning!
Enjoy wearing them.

Getting ready for the tekkie class

There are water buckets, paint brushes, paint, gel medium,
stamps, water spray bottles and lots of other stuff on my studio table.

Yesterday I spent the day cleaning the studio. Today, I spent the day
getting everything ready for the class on Saturday.

That included getting the samples ready of the Distress paints
I want to use instead of the normal acrylic paints and sealing them with
gel medium to see if they are water resistant.
Two of them were not!
It was the first two that I bought a couple of years ago.
Terracotta and Lettuce.
The others are fine and didn't react to the gel medium being painted over them.
Interesting....

All I still need, is a couple of plastic sheets to cover the tables
and then I am ready for the class.
Keep well !

Card Class Saturday 18 January 2014

Dressing up is always fun! Finding embellishments for
a card is also fun. It is the same as dressing up.
Can I add this..., will this go..., is this to much...?
All the same questions.

Saturday 18 January we will be making 6 Cards.

As always learning, relaxing and creating.

Leisure Books Polymer Clay Class

As I said, I am glad to be working with polymer clay again.
Maybe playing with clay during my Gr 1 year has
left a lasting impression om me that I wasn't aware of.
 Maybe also the painting.......

Ranger has a Distress ink called Stormy Sky. I used the
ink on the canvas and then sprayed it for a more distressed look.
It looks like Delft, I couldn't believe my eyes.

To colour the clay, we used Perfect Pearls. (Also form Ranger)
The small silver element was covered in Silver Leaf.
Stamp the words Love and Memories with black Archival ink.
The edges of the canvas are stained with the Distress Stains.
I used Black Soot and Stormy Sky.

Use a Crop-a-dile to punch holes in the Canvas panel
and thread a piece of gross grain ribbon through
the holes. Make a knot in front at both sides and you are
ready to hang your art work.

Mothers day Gift Tin

These tins were decorated during our class on the 11th of May.
Most of the girls said that they were going to keep their tins.

We used Alcohol inks to colour the lids and each one chose their own colours.

Then we decorated the lids with stickers and flowers.
With alcohol ink you never really know how the result will look like,
but that is exciting. If you want to experiment first, do it on a piece of acetate.
The sides of the tin were covered with paper and decorated with stickers.

And as always, you need to bling it up. Either with some
rine stones or flat back pearls.

Inside the tin are 18 small cards, some completed with
stamped words and small embellishments, The others more plain
and dry embossed.
The small Afrikaans stamps work wonderfully
with this size cards.

Also inside are decorative pins, ribbon, paper ribbon and
flowers. You can really fill it with anything you want.

Earlier this year we decorated the same tin for the
Creative Hobbies magazine but gave it a vintage feel.
Inside are memories of my Grand mother.

The next post I have lined up is all about the
polymer clay class we had with Leisure Books
at Diep in die Berg.
